Isle of Sørøya

An unknown paradise

Île de Sørøya

And its gigantic kern

This morning is a great day because it is the first real morning sleep for the participatnts. Some have slept until 10am, they will be fit for this beautiful but tiring hike. Departure at 13:30 for the first. The first part crosses the village of Akkarfjord then our photo trekkers leave the only track of this part of the island and is found on a path of earth, stone and especially of moss.

There are so many hikers in Sørøya, there is no real trail, just kerns marked with a red T.

The landscapes are really extraordinary. Eyes and cameras are attracted to nearby islands whose shapes are reminiscent of a gigantic crater volcano or a giant comb. Several paths are possible, the one on the right at the edge of cliffs, lakes and with a difficult final climb. The one on the left, several times on small ridges but whose final part is much more progressive. The first reached the summit and its gigantic kern after 2:45 while others more focused on the trigger of their camera, join the first 1h later. The weather was cloudy, but the sun still made us a gift by lighting up the western islands with a golden light reflecting off the water.

2 camps were installed, the first one at the top and the second one a little lower, sheltered from the wind. Casse croute nose in the wind and sleeping around 22h with the hope of seeing the sun around 3am …
